Subaru Ascent Wilderness – Unlike its business partner Toyota Motor Corporation, which has already dropped the curtain to show the 2025 Camry Hybrid and 2025 Crown Signia crossover SUV first, the Subaru LA Auto Show is keeping a surprise on press day.
Wanting to adopt its own red carpet look, Toyota launched the ninth-generation Camry globally alongside the first-ever Crown SUV a few days ahead of schedule. Both are hybrids and have more than 200 horsepower under the hood — 225 and 232 for the FWD or AWD Camry and 243 for the Crown Signia, which sounds good when paired with impressive mileage, right?

In addition, they are all part of the middle segment – this is also where Subaru recently started playing in the SUV crossover field. They first introduced the Tribeca mid-size crossover SUV back in 2005, with a quirky design that lasted until 2014 – but then Subaru revived the design ethos with a more traditional Ascent model (sold as the Evoltis in other markets).
Subaru Ascent 3 Row Mid Size Crossover Shows Its New Face From The Cgi Mist
The company returned to the mid-sized SUV after a short break in 2018 with the Subaru Ascent and quickly offered it to fit the entire family consisting of the 2024 Crosstrek, Forester, Outback and 2023 Solterra BEV if we talk about crossover SUVs. But why are we talking about High Rise?
Subaru of America announced earlier this month that “the redesigned vehicle will debut at 9:40 a.m. PT (12:40 p.m. ET) on November 16 at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show.” Since then, fans have been speculating about which model will grace the show – and the rumors weren’t far off. This of course means that the virtual space of the digital car manufacturers is also ready to provide support.
Channels on YouTube have released their resident pixels to show the vision of this mid-size CUV. And no worries, there is another way out
, if you believe that the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid might be really amazing.

Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness (2024)
SUBARU Crosstrek Crossover SUBARU Impreza 4 Door Compact SUBARU Ascent Large SUV SUBARU WRX Compact SUBARU Impreza 5 Door Compact All SUBARU Models The world has changed, and the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness promises to change with it. Itineraries switch from off-road to off-road, Subaru upgrades its vehicle with the new Wilderness model. It costs $38,120 plus $1,125 destination and goes on sale this summer, Subaru announced Monday.
The desert does not rise above the mountain of the Outback tree. Two well-chosen XT models with a 260-hp 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four like the Wilderness are more: the 2022 Outback Limited XT is $39,120; The 2022 Outback Touring XT starts at $41,070.
We’ll have to put it to the test to see how well this new model will do in the desert, but it looks to be quite the deal. High Desert livery, brass accents, additional fenders around the wheels and a black tip on the hood to deflect light add to the aggressiveness. All copper pieces are used to cover external connections, such as hook anchors and roof bolts. The face plate comes standard, with two extra plates added as a factory option for about $600.
Key to the Outback’s technical upgrade is a new roof system. It has been extended to carry up to 700 pounds, a significant increase over the standard roof’s 150-pound capacity. The jump is large enough to carry a roof-mounted tent, or to carry a lot of luggage to support you for long periods outdoors.

Larger front and rear springs provide more ground clearance and suspension, giving the Wilderness 9.5 inches of ground clearance compared to 8.7 inches of ground clearance on the regular Outback. This upgrade, along with modified front and rear bumpers, increases the lean to 20 degrees (1.4 degrees more), the launch angle to 23.6 degrees (1.9 degrees more) and the break angle to 21.2 degrees (1.8 degrees more). Yokohama Geolandar tires (with a larger scale) also come with white lettering and 17-inch matte black wheels.
The Wilderness sticks with the turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-4 that makes 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque on the top-of-the-line Outbacks and Subaru Ascent three-row SUV. The transmission, the eight-speed continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) by comparison, has reached a higher final gear ratio (from 4.11:1 to 4.44:1) intended to increase low-end traction and allow the Wilderness to climb high gradients, and does so very efficiently.
All-wheel drive is standard (of course), and it can tow up to 3,500 pounds, the same as the top Onyx trim with the upgraded turbo flat-4. In the desert, Subaru has expanded the Outback’s standard X-Mode, which previously only worked at high speed. When the system exceeds 25 mph, it turns off, and as soon as you slow down again, the system will automatically resume X-Mode. If this sounds like a change that should be implemented on the regular Outback, you’d be right, but Subaru wasn’t committed if this was the case.
Inside, there’s plenty of Wilderness branding available on the seats and all-season floor mats, along with brass accents and stitching to match what’s available on the outside. The seats are waterproof for easy cleaning, and the rear seats and cargo floor are waterproof. Other than that, the interior is the same as the regular Outback. A large 11.6-inch vertically oriented screen comes as standard. Subaru mentioned only one available package, which adds cruise control, a power moonroof and automatic rear brakes. No word on pricing for this package or for the Wilderness as a whole, though we’re guessing it will cost a few thousand more than the Outback Onyx Edition XT’s base price of $36,195 (including destination).
Subaru Wilderness Models & Adventure Ready Accessories
While this is the first of Subaru’s Wilderness models, it may not be the last, especially if the Outback Wilderness proves popular. The Wilderness is aimed at those who like what the Outback already has to offer and only need a few minor tweaks to make it suitable for regular action. Bold colors are on the way for outdoor enthusiasts.
The Subaru Outback Wilderness and Forester Wilderness segments have been successful for Subaru of America. Tom Doll, CEO and president of Subaru of America, hints that sportier models are coming to American customers.
A recent report from Wards Auto revealed that the head of Subaru of America, speaking at the Auto Team America Dealer/CEO/CFO Forum held in conjunction with the 2023 NADA Show, may have revealed details about the new Wilderness models.
It hasn’t been officially announced by Subaru Corporation or Subaru of America, but the next-generation 2024 Crosstrek will also get a Wilderness trim level. The Crosstrek Wilderness is not expected to arrive until the launch of the third-generation Crosstrek sometime later this year.
Subaru Outback Wilderness Details
The next-generation 2024 US Crosstrek will debut in North America on February 9, 2023 at the Chicago Auto Show. But the Crosstrek Wilderness will not be shown at the exhibition.
Tom Doll mentioned at the Subaru dealer meeting that Subaru of America may introduce more Wilderness levels soon. Doll said Subaru’s current lineup is designed specifically for the tastes of U.S. buyers, citing the three lines of the Subaru Ascent and top-of-the-line trim and equipment for the Subaru Outback and Subaru Forester.
According to Wards Auto, Doll says additional Wilderness packages may be on the way, possibly hinting at the new Ascent.
